For Karen, semi-permanent makeup is the meeting point of so many things she has loved throughout her life, art, creativity, a passion for helping people, and for helping people feel confident in themselves.

Her love of makeup first began in her teens. From an early age, she loved trying different make up looks and was fascinated by its ability to subtly enhance individual features, but perhaps even more so by the way something seemingly so small could influence the way a person feels about themselves.

Karen first explored this by studying and gaining a qualification in media makeup for film, television & theatre, including special effects make up. This allowed her to explore the incredible artistry behind makeup in greater depth, developing an understanding of colour theory, balance and proportion and discovering how makeup can be used not only to transform, but also to subtly complement rather than overpower an individual’s natural features.

Art and creativity have always been an important part of Karen’s life. She finds beauty in the smallest of details, from the perfectly complementary colours of an incredible sunset, to art in all its forms, and loves the process of creating something beautiful through the smallest, most considered touches.

Creativity gives her an outlet to express herself, something that also runs in the family. Her grandfather, someone she has always looked up to, is an artist himself, and his creativity has always been a source of inspiration to her. 

Over the years, those around Karen have often commented on her strong aesthetic eye, an instinctive understanding of colour, proportion and detail, and an ability to recognise what will complement an individual rather than simply following a trend. It is this combination of artistic instinct and attention to detail that she is most most loves to bring to her SPMU work.

Another thread that has shaped Karen’s life is her fascination with people, the relationships we form, the care we show one another and the profound effect those interactions can also have on how someone feels. This ultimately led her into nursing, where caring for individuals through a truly holistic approach has remained at the heart of her work.

For more than a decade, Karen has worked as a nurse within cosmetic enhancement, combining her clinical nursing knowledge with a passion for helping people look and, more importantly, feel their best.

Now, SPMU brings all of those different parts of her story together.

There is something Karen loves about studying a face, noticing the tiny details others might overlook and understanding how colour, shape, symmetry and balance can work together to enhance what is already there.

Her approach to semi-permanent makeup is centred around subtle, bespoke enhancement.

No templates. No one-size-fits-all approach.

Every brow, lip and eyeliner treatment is designed individually, taking into consideration the person’s features, colouring, personal style and desired result. The aim is never to create the same look on every face, but to create something that feels entirely at home on yours.

Alongside her artistic background, Karen is also a Specialist Nurse and Independent Nurse Prescriber, bringing years of clinical knowledge and experience into her SPMU practice. Safety, cleanliness, infection control and professional care are fundamental to the way she works. Her prescribing qualification also enables her to clinically assess and treat where appropriate.

But at the heart of Larikó is artistry.

Throughout her career, Karen has seen the close relationship between confidence and emotional wellbeing. For her, semi-permanent makeup isn’t about changing a face or making someone look like somebody else. Its about seeing the individual in front of her and using artistry to enhance the features that already make them uniquely themselves.

Because the best semi-permanent makeup shouldn’t be the first thing somebody notices.
